Melody Schwenk Will Defend Her Ph.D on March 27, 2026 at 12:00PM EST
I will be defending my dissertation “Neural Mechanisms of Spatial Cognition in American Sign Language Users” at Gallaudet University.
The defense is open to the public. If you’d like to watch, you are warmly invited.
Date: Friday, March 27, 2026
Time: 12:00 PM Eastern

No registration is required for the in-person event. You don’t need to know anything about neuroscience, EEG, or spatial cognition. You are welcome whether you are a colleague, a friend, a family member, a curious stranger, or a mascot who received a letter from me asking you to join my committee. (You know who you are.)
I’ll be the one at the podium. Or, more accurately, seated near the podium, because standing for extended periods is not currently in my repertoire. Apollo the Goldendoodle may make a cameo. He is not on the committee, despite his persistent lobbying.
Come watch me become Dr. Schwenk. I’ve been working toward this for a very long time, and I’d love to share it with as many people as possible!
See you Friday.
